The Community Service Program is a way for the court to resolve certain criminal cases. In this program, selected defendants are given the opportunity to make restitution to the community by performing uncompensated work at non-profit or government agencies locally and throughout the State. This program provides an alternative sentencing option for the court, and can offer defendants an opportunity for personal rehabilitation through their time and efforts serving our local community.
The United Way of Meriden and Wallingford in a partnership with the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch administers this program at Meriden Superior Court. Last year, 878 individuals were placed into court-ordered community service completing more than 37,000 hours with a dollar value worth over $729,000. Clients and agencies find this program equally beneficial and vital to our community.
