EFSP Emergency Food and Shelter Program

2025 UPDATE: Our United Way of Meriden & Wallingford has coordinated the federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) to local agencies who have the recourses to respond to the targeted need. Earlier this year, our community learned that we will no longer receive funding from EFSP.

For years, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been a lifeline in helping Meriden and Wallingford families pay rent to avoid eviction, keeping the heat and lights on, and putting food on the table during times of crisis.

Local organizations, already stretched thin, will have fewer resources to respond to the growing needs we see every day. The loss of EFSP funding affects real people- our most vulnerable neighbors (seniors, children, working families) in our own community who depend on this safety net. Now more than ever, we must work together to find solutions and fill the gap left behind.
